A marathon meeting of Surbiton Conclave No. 299

A marathon meeting took place on 1st June 2017 at Surbiton Masonic Hall and was attended by 31 brethren.

The Conclave was honoured by the visit of R.Wy. Bro Laurence James Young PGSR, as well as Provincial Officers and member of the Arch of Steel. The Provincial Visitor was Wy. Bro. Alan Brockwell.

Surbiton has two new members, Bro. Ian Keen and Bro. Roger Short. Both were balloted for successfully and inducted into the Order. The Ceremony was performed by the Supreme Ruler Wy. Bro. Alan Boniface, ably assisted by his Officers. R.Wy. Bro. Laurence James Young PGSR, gave the address to the new candidates.

After a short break and to collect our thoughts, we were off again! This time the Supreme Ruler performed the Ceremony of Installation on Bro. David Willmott, he in turn then invested his Officers for the year. The address to the Supreme Ruler was given by Wy.Bro. Colin Beerling DepPGSR and the Explanation of the Weapons, was given by Wy.Bro. Duncan Bell.

The Provincial Grand Supreme Ruler R.Wy. Bro. Laurence James Young informed the Brethren of the Children’s Cancer Charity, Momentum and the work that they do. This was proposed and seconded and unanimously endorsed by the Brethren, that the sum of £500 would be donated to the charity.

Following the meeting 29 members, visitors and guests enjoyed a splendid Festive Board in a very harmonious atmosphere. All the necessary toasts were given. A raffle was held and with the generous support of the brethren, £130 was raised. The Festive Board finished at 10pm. The Officers had been there for seven hours and the rest of the Brethren for six – now that’s what you call a meeting!

The next meeting of the Conclave will be held on the 7th September 2017.
